Abstract

Cultural Lawrence Venuti’s theory is one of the theories in the area of fluent translation. He introduces the duality of domestication and foreignization in terms of the presence of translation in the text. In his opinion, the domestication approach tries to prevent penetration of a foreign culture into the host culture. On the other hand, the foreignization approach is an attempt to introduce other nations’ culture and values to the audience. The present paper is an attempt to analyze and examine the cultural elements in the Arabic translation of Soria Dar Eqhma (Smaiel Fasih) translated by Mohammad Alaedin Mansour based on the theory of translator’s presence. The study was carried out as a descriptive-analytical work. To determine the audience’ tendency to the two approaches introduced by Venuti, the cultural elements were extracted using Newmark classification and compared to the Arabic translation work. The results showed that the translator preserves the cultural values of the text and presenting a fluent translation is not his only objective. He takes the reader into a world different from their own world and introduces a different culture to them. Following Venuti’s approach (foreignization of Persian culture), the translator’s presence is of a translator rather than an author.
