Abstract
The relationship between language and culture is two-way and they are influenced by each other. Some consider language and literature as part of culture, while others consider culture as part of language. Cultural elements and concepts are manifested in language in the form of words, phrases, and idioms. Cultural vocabulary is an item that relates to concepts, relationships, phenomena, tools, etc. in general, the material and spiritual aspects of a specific society, and is bound to a specific culture and unknown in another language. The existence of unknown cultural elements in each language will create a serious challenge in the interaction between cultures and languages, and cultural transfer must also be considered in order to establish understandable communication. Translation is done in order to familiarize the audience with the culture of people of other languages. The book Thorns and Cloves by Yahya Sinwar, because it deals with different aspects of the life of the Palestinian people, contains various cultural elements. In order to provide an expressive and understandable translation, the translator must know the specific elements of each language well and find equivalents in the target language well so that the culture can be transmitted correctly. The present study attempts to examine Mr. Shani's translation of the book The Thorn and the Clove based on the types of cultural elements used in the work and the translator's strategies in the translation text.
